The Young Hero
In the city of New York, a place where crime is unstopped, is the story of a 17 year old
girl and how she saved her father's company and wealth.
Who's this young girl, you may ask? Me, Lasha Toya Copewell. I'm 17 years old, and this is my story. My father, Marcus Copewell, is a businessman and the CEO of the Copewell Association of Sport, the most popular business in North America, Europe, and Asia. We are like any other rich family, but with no mother in the house. Seven years ago, she died from stomach cancer. Well, today is like any normal day, Dad takes me to school and he goes to work, but today at school was different.
When school was over, I expected my dad to pick me up, but his assistant, Mrs. Vega, picked me up from school. He never has time for me since my mom died.
"How are you doing Ms. Lasha?," she said. I want to say I really don't feel like talking, but I had to be polite. "Fine," I said with a yawn, "How about you?"
"I'm doing well, thank you."
Bored out of my wits, I really didn't want to go home; there I was looking out the window, thinking about how things would be different if my mom was here. I saw three boys on the road with blood coming out of their bodies.
"Stop the car," I yelled to Mrs. Vega, "there are three boys on the side of the road bleeding!" I jumped out of the car and went to see if they were okay. I saw that they were breathing, but they were barely alive. I saw they were beaten up and hurt very badly, and they need to go to the Lincoln Memorial Hospital right away. Mrs. Vega called the hospital and the ambulance came and took the boys to the hospital. I was very worried because their injuries were very bad, so I asked "Mrs. Vega, can we follow them to see if they would be okay?"
"I wish we could, but I have to take you to your father's job, or he will be worried." So, we went to my father's job, but I still worried about those boys.
The next day was the craziest day, Aunt Jackie came to visit us, but I bet she only wanted to ask for money. Since my mother was married to my father, my aunt has been acting weird, my dad would always say that she was jealous of my mom because she married a rich businessman, but my auntie married a cashier that works at Wal-mart. As soon she was at the door and walked in the house, I felt a cold chill down my spine. "Ah, my dear brother-in-law," Jackie said with a slick smile, "how are you and young Lasha doing on this fine day?''
"We're doing fine, thank you," dad said with a look of disgust on his face.
"Why are you here?" As soon he said those words, my aunt's smile wiped off her face.
"Well, can I come and see my family? I mean we are family," she said with a smile.
"Besides, I had to come and see how you and your daughter are doing since my dear sister died, God rest her soul."
Then, they started to argue about being part of the family and stuff. I was sick of it. So I rushed down stairs and said, "Can you two ever stop arguing, because I'm sick of it!" There was a total silence in the room, but then I asked my father "Dad, can I go to the hospital?"
"Why," he asked.
"There were a couple of boys that we found on the side of the road, beaten up very badly, yesterday when Mrs. Vega was taking me to your job," I explained. With a strange look on his face, "Mm, OK, I can take you to the hospital." So he grabs his car keys and looked at Aunt Jackie and said with a mean look on his face, "You need to leave, because I don't trust you, not one single bit."
She grabbed her coat and car keys and said, "Fine Marcus, mark my word, your days of wealth and fame will come to an end." When I heard those words, I kept thinking about what she meant that his days of wealth and fame will come to an end.
Shortly after my aunt's visit, we were on our way to the hospital. My dad had a worried look on his face. "Dad," I asked, "what did Aunt Jackie mean about when she said that your days of wealth and fame will come to an end?"
"Don't worry about that, Lasha," he said with a worried look, but he tried to hide with a smile, "Don't listen to your aunt. Now listen to me, and don't go near or be around your aunt. She is not good to hang around with, she can get you in trouble or even worse, you hear me?"
"Yes sir."
After the conversation, we were at the hospital; I was so happy that we made because since that day those boys went to the Lincoln Memorial Hospital, I was very worried about them. We went into the hospital; I asked the assistant, "What room are three teenage boys are in?"
"They're on the 2nd floor in room 257,'' says the assistant.
"Thank you, so much," I said.
While we were walking to the room, I noticed that my dad had a weird look on his face. He looked at me and asked, "Have you ever seen these boys before or do you even know them?"
"No sir."
"Then why did you want to come see them?," he said with anger in his voice.
"It felt like the right thing to do," I said looking in his eyes, "Mom would have done the same thing if she was still alive. She had a kind heart. I know that if it was someone in that bad condition like that, she would have helped them, wouldn't she?"
All he could do is just look down, because I was right and he knew it. It was hurting him because I reminded him of my mom, how she would help anyone in need of help. It was hurting him, thinking about her. He sat in a chair, crying for the one love that he lost. I walked to find the room to see how those boys were doing. Then I found it.
"Finally," I said with relief, "I found it. Thank God." As soon as I walked in, I saw them looking better than before. They were watching TV, but when I walked in, it was totally silent. I was scared because they looked like they were going to jump me.
"Who are you," the tall boy said. Scared as I was, I had to be brave, with a soft voice and shaking knees, I said "My name is Lasha; I'm the one that called the hospital to come and get you. You were found on the side of the road bleeding very badly. What happened to you all," I asked, "Did you get into a fight?"
"That's none of your business," one boy said.
All of a sudden, one of the boys, with a blue hat, spoke, "My name is John, I'm 18, and these are my bothers. The one that you were taking to is Jay-Jay. He's 19, and the one that is quiet is Mike, he's17." I felt and sudden relief came over me.
"Nice to meet you," I said.
"Thanks for calling the hospital. We been into a fight and well, it didn't go well," said John with a smile, "Why did you do that for us?" They all looked at me, but Jay-Jay said, "Maybe it's because she just felt bad for us non-rich kids that live in a dangerous neighborhood with guns or whatever."
"No," I said quick as a flash, "I did that because it was the right thing to do, and for your 411, just because you keep watching those movies that shows 'rich people' being mean to people that doesn't have any money is fake. Some of us have a heart to help because I could of just left you on the ground dead from loss of blood!" With hatred in my eyes, I walked out of that room and said to my dad, "Can we please go home?" He never asked what was wrong with me because he was going through problems of his own and we went home that night.
The next day, some visitors came over to see me, it was those three boys, I really didn't want to see them, but since dad was at work, I was bored and didn't have anything to do today. "Miss Lasha," said the maid, "you have a couple of boys that want to see you, and they said that they wanted to apologize from yesterday. Did you want to see them?"
"Send them in," I said, "and take them to the living room."
"Why did we have to come here," Jay-Jay said, "we don't need to come say hi to her. She knows that it's true. I bet that she going to come here with some fancy clothes."
When I heard that, I was made because I don't like to wear expensive things. It makes me look like I'm a spender of money. So I came down stairs from my room wearing my favorite outfit. A white T-shirt with red ballers and red Nike and a white hat. They had on a surprised look on their face. "Dang, she isn't wearing anything fancy," said Mike. "Yea," Jay-Jay said.
"Hello boys," I said, "welcome to my home."
All they could say, "Nice outfit."
After that we had fun playing video games, swimming in my pool and skating. It was the best day ever. Well, the day was ending, and it was time for them to go, "Bye," I said and I went to sleep.
At my aunt Jackie's house, was a whole different story. You see, she was sitting in that chair that she got from the dump, thinking about how she is going to ruin my father's company and take his wealth.
"I can't stand that brother-in-law that I have," she said, "why couldn't I get married to him? I would have been the richest women alive with every and anything that I want." Now her husband, Mark, was a normal, low paying guy that worked at Wal-Mart as a cashier and could only afford a two bed room with two bath room apartment.
"Oh come on honey," he said, "I'm trying to get you all those nice things to make you happy, but it's tough trying to get you all those thing and you're out of a job."
With a look of jealousy in her eyes, she said, "There got to be away to let him lose his company." Then all of a sudden, she had an idea, "If my brother-in-law want to play dirty, well I'll fight back dirty. I'll tell the New York Time that he tried to kill his own child and is taking all the company's money right out of their hands."
The next day, he was in deep trouble, the company had lost 2.3 billion dollars in the last hour. It was awful, so many people had lost their jobs. Soon after that, when we were at home, the police came and took my father away to jail. They were coming after me, but I got away and tried to find Jay-Jay, John, and Mike. They saw me running to them.
"Is that Lasha?" said Mike, "she looks like she is in trouble." As soon as I came, I fell in Jay-Jay's arms. I told them everything about my dad's company and he was sent to jail. They said that they would help me, so we began at my aunt's house.
That night we went to her house and found out the shocking truth, my aunt planned the whole thing to get my dad's money. I had anger in my eye, I wanted to kill her, but I wound have been in more trouble.
"Hey you guys," whispered John, "I see some cops coming over here." As soon as we tried to run away, we got caught by my uncle, Mark.
"Well," he said with a gun in front of our heads, "look at what we have here, a bunch of spies!" We were so scared that Mike peed in his pants, he told us, "Go into your aunt's house. She is waiting for you." We did what he said and went into the house, but I had a trick up my sleeve. I had a tape recorder and a spy camera in my shirt. "Hello there, Darling," my aunt Jackie said, "what are you doing here?"
"We know what you did," I said, "you set my dad up to get his company and wealth. Well guess what, you're not going to win."
She was laughing with a look of victory. We was scared, but I wasn't. "You see," Jackie said, "I'm already rich now since your father is in jail and there is no one to run the company, but you. Since you're too young to take care of it, that means that I'm going to have full rights over the company."
"Hey you witch," John said, "you can't do that!"
"Oh," said Jackie, "but I am, dear Mark, get rid of this trash."
"With pleasure," he said. When he tried to grab us, I got an idea. I know that Mark doesn't like to be called poor, so I called him poor and say that he will never be anything. He was mad and tried to come and slap, but I use my Karate moves on him so we could escape. We rode our bikes down to the police station, but Jackie and Mark was on our trail. Quick as a flash, John put some slime on the ground that made them slip. Luckily, we set a trip up and they was caught in a net hanging from a tree.
Finally we made it to the police station, we told them that my dad was tricked and my aunt was trying to get his money, but they didn't believe us until we showed them the evidence. We told them wear they was and they found them and locked them up in jail, and set my dad free. It was a happy day for me, plus I had fun saving my family and friends. After that, my dad and I was close than we ever had been before, but my most favorite thing is I made new friends and I was Jay-Jay's girlfriend. Everything was fine, I had the most awesome time of my life.
